We had planned on going to London, but we woke at eleven and decided Colchester was a better option, haha!
With its endless charity shops, a lovely park, quirky clothes shops, the old Roman capital is literally perfect. Its the nicest town near where we live so this year, we have frequently found ourselves jumping on a train; me with a book, the boy waving to random passengers in passing trains and relishing the short journey.

We headed to Cex first then wandered around the charity shops... the boy kindly bought me a lovely sailor jacket (originally from h&m) from the British Heart Foundation and its perfect :) I have also won two more coats on eBay recently, but thats for another post!
We also found another bargain; three of the original Star Wars videos for 75p, thank you Colchester Cats protection!

After a quick bite to eat in their Wetherspoons (the food took a while but it was worth the wait) we got on the train home; a perfect Saturday afternoon.

Finally managed to connect the camera to the laptop :D Here is a better picture of the coat, it was around £12 from a blogsale, originally from Primarni... you may think, hey that's a bit expensive, but it was in amazing condition and I loooooove velvet. The colour is also spectacular!

I have almost finished tweaking part one of my Historical novel, am now just ensuring that it's 100% accurate (clothes, food, events etc). It can get a little tedious, the other day I wrote about 4/5 pages of notes about one single event! Its so important the facts are correct.

Anyway, enough of my rambling about facts.... here are two outfit posts :)

Little update

Gosh, I haven't posted for a little while!
I was going to blog yesterday with some outfit pictures that were taken on my digital camera but they won't transfer to my laptop... >.< Let's just say, a little purple velvet coat arrived on friday and it is already my ultimate favourite coat :)
The boy snapped a picture whilst we were walking to Tesco in the dark yesterday...

The other pictures are us eating out... which we do a fair bit of. We got some good old pub grub on friday (fish-finger sandwich for me, burger and chips for the boy) and we have literally just got back from our favourite restaurant Giraffe (vegetable & feta salad for me, burger and chips for the boy). Its the third day in a row that he's had burger and chips... he'll begin to look like a burger soon!

I had been looking forward to this day for ages! As the real date of the battle was the 14th October, we decided to travel down south a week before to avoid getting caught among tonnes of people.
Battle Abbey was up first, only £7.80 to get in if you are not English Heritage members, and you get a free audio tour of the battlefield and the abbey itself :). Some of the field was sectioned off as the event last year did a fair bit of damage, but it was still incredible to think we were standing where potentially either Harold or William stood on that fateful day.

The views were absolutely stunning and I felt a tear run my cheek as I breathed in the scent of the battle itself (sorry, that's Rebecca the poet there) but yes, I felt quite emotional.

We then sped off for Hastings itself, grabbed lunch then explored Hastings castle, the first Norman castle built in England (correct me if I am wrong!). The scenery, again stunning.

I ruined a pair of black shoes whilst walking around Battle... luckily my old battered boots were in the back of the car!
